Week in Review - August 2, 2004

Despite bad reviews, Shyamalan's The Village managed to open to $50 million. The fairly big-budget Thunderbirds didn't even open in the top 10. And, Shrek 2 surpassed The Phantom Menace to become the #2 highest domestic grosser of all time (not counting titles benefiting from multiple releases like E.T. and Star Wars).

As mentioned earlier, Kerry Conran has been tapped to direct A Princess of Mars. We can also look forward to a Triumph: The Insult Comic Dog movie and Keira Knightley starring in Domino, from screenwriting genius Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko).

Dark Horse comics will publish a short series of comic books based on Pixar's upcoming The Incredibles. They are set to release near the release of the movie, in early November.

Pierce Brosnan has officially announced he will not be returning to the role of James Bond. There have been dozens of rumors floating around as to who might be the next 007, with half of them being officially debunked a week after they appear. I for one wouldn't be heartbroken if Bond disappears forever, but as long as there is money to be made in it, there will be more James Bond movies.
