Hidden Gems - Four Times That Night

In this new post series I will strive to expose some lesser-known film gems to a wider audience. Of course, because the readership of this blog is approximately 4 (including myself), the gems themselves must be extremely obscure to qualify here.

The 1969 Italian comedy Four Times That Night certainly fits the profile. It takes the multiple point-of-view storytelling technique of Kurosawa's classic Roshomon and turns it into a hilarious tale of differing perspectives and casual sex. Not quite a masterpiece, but certainly better than any of the modern 'sex romp' films, and certainly less explicit for the prudish (or prudent, whatever) among you. Taken for what it is meant to be, Four Times That Night is a playful genre-twisting film (director Mario Bava was a lifelong horror-maestro) that hits all the right beats.
