Crushing Disappointment

A while back, an image was posted on the net from the upcoming Godzilla: Final Wars movie:



As you can imagine, I was very excited. It looked like this movie was going to be the coolest, biggest-budget movie to ever come from Japan. Godzilla: Final Wars instantly jumped to the Top 5 of my Most Anticipated Movies list.

But recently, the teaser trailer was released. The only clip from the movie shown was this:

First off, the latter clip looks about 90% less cool and $5 million cheaper. Secondly, Godzilla in the second shot doesn't look much like Godzilla in the first shot.

So, apparently the first shot was really just a piece of promo art put out by the studio, and the actual movie will look nothing like it, and certainly not as cool. I vastly prefer the look of Godzilla in the 1998 film to the one in Godzilla: Final Wars. I guess it was too much to hope for that Japan could afford to put out a decent-looking Godzilla. Oh well.
