Hidden Gems - Buried Loot (1935)

Buried Loot is a very clever short subject drama from MGM. In it, a man named Douglas steals $200,000 and claims to have blown it all on gambling, but he really buried it. He goes to jail for five years. But, he is able to escape after a short time and get away from the police in pursuit. He lays low in Canada for a while, and then digs up his money. But, he wants to return to the city to spend his money, so he sets off an explosion that disfigures his face. The doctors patch it back together, but he is unrecognizable (as he had hoped for). But when he returns to the city, he is immediately arrested and the money is seized. It turns out the police never believed he squandered the money. They let him escape, and even staged a pursuit, then followed him while he retrieved the money. So, Douglas goes to back to jail, this time with a horribly disfigured face, and no $200,000.
